All objects featured in the exhibition ≪Trans-Furniture (What Happened to the Furniture)≫ are symbolic pieces that testify to the relationship between the "original furniture" that once filled the home of architect saasaakunkun and the "reconfigured objects" newly designed based upon them.

Doors Drifting Outside the Industrial Orbit
It began with two discarded doors from a construction site. Brought home with the thought that "they might be useful someday," these industrial leftovers were initially nothing more than test panels for sketches. Choosing them was a reflection of the architect’s desire to have at least one object in the house that had completely drifted away from the efficient orbits of society or industry—an object that held only personal traces.

Bringing the Lapis Lazuli of Siena into the Living Room
The architect suddenly recalled the awe he felt in the presence of religious architecture during a trip to Europe. He remembered the apex of the vault structures he encountered atop the towers of the Siena Cathedral, and the distant, ethereal hue of the aged lapis lazuli that filled those spaces. He wanted to summon that sacred structure and color back into the objects of everyday life.

Designing "Wobbly" Memories Through Blueprints
In the process of translating the majestic vaults and distant stars of the Siena Cathedral into metal detailing, the architect became paradoxically obsessed with preserving the "traces of the hand." The sleek, cold, machine-cut lines were replaced by "wobbly lines" that captured the designer’s contemplation and the raw touch of someone unpracticed in manual crafts. This persistent effort to retain free-form traces while passing through a precise design system unfolds a dual-sided landscape upon the screen. On one side, the grandeur of the sacred vaults; on the other, the gentle beauty of the stars. These metal ornaments become a tender scene that lingers by our side.

Artist’s Note

"Objects produced in factories through highly refined processes are certainly necessary, but I believe that any space also needs 'things made by hand, a little crooked and clumsy, by someone who is not especially skilled.' On the surfaces of these plain, almost dull pieces of furniture, I suspended looping, intertwined lines. Only when a rough but unmistakably 'human-made form,' something that the logic of sleek mass production can never fully imitate, is introduced do these pieces of furniture feel truly alive to me."
